First days
The first 10 days after birth: what must not be missed
The ten days after birth are a period when help is measured not by the number of procedures but by attention to details that only regular contact reveals.
First days
What we watch in the baby
Weight gain, the number of wet nappies, stool, the vigour of feeding, skin colour. Parents should be given the rule for reading a result, not the result itself: then a worried call to the hospital gives way to calm observation at home.
Where help is most often lost
At shift handovers and at discharge. What a midwife passed on verbally does not always reach the community service in the same shape. A short written summary is the most underrated tool of the early postpartum period.
